Boat building is 90% making dust.  Sanding, grinding, shaving – it doesn’t matter.  Dust is dust.  And dust is friend to no one.

Final shaping of the hull was today, and so for that we brought out the big guns.  The trusty Black & Decker grinder.  Throughout the day we went back and forth between grinding and shaping our stem, just to break things up and keep everyone loose.  The 2″ wide stem first got attacked with the 28V Milwaukee skill saw, making short work of the majority of material.  Some final spokeshaving and it was looking pretty sweet.

All this work just to be covered up

There was so much dust, at one point when I looked up to see how fair things were, I could have sworn that a tumbleweed rolled by.  But it was just my imagination, that and the exhaust blasting a pile of, you guessed it, DUST!

No one likes grinding

Now that the hull has been shaped it’s time for the next step…

Tomorrow.
